Jacob and his mother, Miriam, have been coming regularly to the Canoe Outpost and paddling the Peace for a while. Jacob and his “Playpal” Amy also come. Jacob is a little, blond ball of fire with autism and just loves playing in the water. The joy we get from watching Jacob and his love of the water has been our main inspiration in decision to work with Revolution Autism.

Miriam had called and wanted to discuss getting Canoe Outpost involved with other families with children with autism. We weren’t exactly sure of our direction in helping.

Then we saw “Surfers Healing” on TV. Surfers Healing are surfers who take kids with autism and put them on surfboards in the ocean. The kids have a blast and the water is a soothing experience for them. We thought that if surfing can help, then why not paddling? Water, water, water. Surfing and paddling, just different ways of getting on the water.

When Jacob’s mother confirmed that the paddle trips had made a difference in Jacob’s demeanor and that effected her and her entire family, we wanted to help other families dealing with children with autism.

Canoe Outpost-Peace River has volunteered to sponsor a twice annual paddling get together for the families and Playpals of Revolution Autism. We are more than happy to offer free canoes for each of these events.

We are also proud to offer to all families of children with autism a special discount price when they bring their special one paddling. This price is good all year ‘round. Just ask for "Jacob's Paddle".

Hopefully we can offer others like Jacob the chance to enjoy the paddling experience and help their families find a little “peace”.
